If you want fullness and wave you will have to try my idea! As a teen and young woman I battled wavy, unruly hair my whole life I envied anyone with straight hair! Of course, as I got older I learned to appreciate what I had and to work with my own hair's natural tendency. I no longer had the time or need to fight my hair everyday. First off, I found a length and hairstyle that I could live with and that looked good both straight, wavy or curly. A medium length, with light bangs and layers works the best for me.
However, in my youth and through experimentation I discovered a simple way to tame my hair and add nice wave. I had a friend try this on her straight hair and she said it gave her fullness and a nice wave to her hair. It doesn't cost anything so give it a try!
1. After washing your hair and it is still damp (almost dry) add some gel to your hair and brush it up into a very high ponytail (use a smooth bristle brush) and secure with a hair tie. (not a rubberband...it will leave marks).
2. Get some different size brush rollers or sponge rollers (something you can sleep on)and take small sections of the hair that hangs from the ponytail, smooth on some gel and wrap or brush the hair around the roller and secure it to the top of your head or ponytail.
3. You may have to adjust the rollers and sizes to make it more comfortable and you will spend the night with your new hair friends! So...sleep on it!
4. In the morning, use hairspray on the curlers and let it set a few minutes, remove the rollers and the pony tail gently and usually just finger comb or lightly brush. Your hair should be dry, full and have some wave or curl. If your hair is not completely dry by morning you will lose your wave.
It may be necessary to experiment with this idea depending on the thickness, length, and how straight your hair is. Also, be careful in using those conditioners that add weight to your hair and your curl will slide right out! Experiment with different products; use gels and hairsprays that are made for your hair type and the desire you are looking for. Talk to a professional for information on good hair products.
Hopefully, my idea will save you time...and one less day with blowdryers, curling irons or hot rollers and it will also save your hair! I can't guarantee that this will work for everyone, but what have you got to lose!
