Many questions surround this question. How do we judge the contents of someone's heart? Should we judge someone's spiritual life as this is the work of the Holy Spirit? How does the separation of church and state play with the question? Do Christians belong to one end of the political spectrums?
Within the quiet world, that all people live in and share with a select few resides the seeker of knowledge, faith and joy. The Holy Spirit lives there. The seeker might explore churches, compare religions against their own and look to servanthood. Many times personal conflicts develop not visible to the human eye, but worked out with the inter relationship. Many might examine behavior and guess, but remains only a guess. Governor Mike Huckabee stated in the Republican presidential debates that he was the only candidate with a degree in theology and he did not fully understand God and any god that a person fully understood would not be big enough for him. Religious freedom should be a lifetime right that should not be open for debate since the evidence remains hidden
The questions provide an alarm because of the building blocks of this nation. The pilgrims came to the United States after a stay in Amsterdam. They left their safe haven in Amsterdam because of their English identity. The pilgrims wanted to be English and follow their religious faith. The denomination of the pilgrims was what makes up the denomination of Rev. Wright, United Church of Christ. The first white women to cross the Rocky Mountains were Narcissi Whitman and Mary Spaulding and they were of the same denomination and set out to bring the Christian message to the Indians. When did this church lose its status, as a Christian church and will the denomination no longer feel welcome as Americans as the pilgrims felt in England. Religious free should return.
When did Christianity occupy one end of the political spectrum? Since most Americans reside in the middle and the majority, claim to be Christian. How could that be? The characteristic of the people of the middle is that they accept pieces of both ends. Some have even asked if Jesus was a Socialist because of the social consciousness. Does all the Christian social issue fall within the conservative agenda?
The question generates more questions than it answers so it is not likely that the answer would not t be answered definitively. United States should maintain itself as a haven of safety for the seeker.
