Poetry: Death of a loved one

by Vea Terrie

Created on: July 14, 2008

My heart lies before me, suffering, as I watch helplessly,
unable to heal it with my love.
The days are long. Torn between desperation and reality
I pray they will end quickly, but last forever.

We cannot keep that which we do not own. The creation
belongs to the creator. We can hold it tightly, laugh with it,
cry with it, sing with it, comfort it, hurt it,
become angry, yet always love and cherish it.
And still it is not ours.

This is not real it is merely a dream. When I wake up, we will laugh
as I recall my struggle against the darkening cloud that enveloped you
and threatened to take you from me. But this is just a dream.

When will I awaken?
Sadness and sorrow have become my existence. There is no comfort,
no path leading back to you.
I pray for your touch to end the agony of this dream.

I am awake now. And you are gone.
