Whether you're a writer, or someone simply looking for a way to unwind at the end of the day, why not try journaling. Spending time every day recording your thoughts, feelings, hopes and dreams, as well as taking time to assess daily events helps put everything into perspective. At the end of the day, imagine having the power to unload all of the burdens that might otherwise keep you awake at night. You can reduce stress by letting go of your worries into the pages of a journal. Become aware of unhealthy trends and patterns in your life before they become harmful. Discover where you stand spiritually. Learn more about your personal relationships than you ever dreamed possible, simply by listening to what your inner-voice has to say.
Most of us wouldn't be caught dead talking to ourselves, but journaling is an easy way to say the things you need to say to yourself without attracting those strange looks from your friends and family. Once you start journaling, you'll be pleasantly surprised by how much you have to say to yourself. Talking with oneself is essential in getting to know who we really are, and self awareness is key to a healthy and productive existence. This also strengthens your sense of self-trust, because there in your own voice you have written your thoughts and feelings, and it is up to you to keep them safe as well.
Regular journaling awakens an inner-voice and sheds light on the way you think and deal with all aspects of your life. Not only will you think and articulate more clearly, you will be able to face the world around you with a presence of mind geared toward awareness. This awareness will strengthen your presence of mind, and you will soon begin to develop an eye for the world around you with the intent to record and analyze in your journal.
You need nothing fancy to get started, just a notebook or journal and a writing implement. Some people like to use a word-processing program and have even taken to blogging in place of journaling, relying on the anonymity of the internet to keep their inner-most thoughts safe. No matter which method you choose, set aside time every day to record your thoughts, feelings, emotions and experiences. Refer back to them whenever you need to reconnect with yourself. Journaling to stay fully connected to self and to keep the lines of self-communication open is just one step toward a healthier mental relationship with the most important person in your life: you.
