"Lost Dream"
I had a dream
But it's gone,
Crushed beneath
The wheel of chance
And the feet of fate.
My once-purposeful wandering
Lost its meaning
As I grew older
And realized
I was growing toward nothing.
Age didn't bring glory, wisdom.
It did not give me my peers' respect.
I became more invisible
With every year
That slipped through my hands.
My friends and family died
One by one
As I watched, helpless.
But I go on
And search still for my dream
Lost so long ago.
Someday it will again be mine.
