A gentle breeze a quiet walk
along our favourite tracks
Two friends enjoying social talk
astride our horses' backs
Through open field and narrow pass
contentedly we wander
All tensions fall away out here
just nature's gifts to ponder
A quicker pace we're warming up
our mounts are keen to trot
With spring in every step we head
towards our racing spot
Ground rises steeply underfoot
anticipation heightened
The horses know its time to go
as grip on rein is tightened
Wind rushes now like thunder
pounding hooves, hearts beating fast
Neither of us wants to be
the one who comes in last
Neck and neck we reach the top
to revel in our prize
Of endless views, mosaic hues
stretched out before our eyes
Now lazily we amble home
relax our faithful steeds
Their loyalty rewarded
as we cater to their needs
They're brushed and rugged and kissed and hugged
cool drink then nice warm feed
Tomorrow they'll be back for more
a blissful life indeed
