We all want long healthy shiny hair, and that's why when we are watching those TV commercials, we often find ourselves attracted to the model's silky hair and the associated new hair products. However, please be reminded that there is no magic hair product in the world and if you wish that you have that model-like perfect long hair, you need to take good care of it.
The followings are some dos and don'ts:
Do Use Gentle/ Natural Shampoo
Some of the people are not used to using gentle/ natural shampoo because less foam is being lathered and they feel that it doesn't wash as clean as the other "normal" shampoos. But the fact is it contains less harmful chemicals to hair and it will do good to hair in the long-run.
Do Use a Deep Cleansing Shampoo Once a Week
Think of the residues of shampoo, conditioner, hair styling products, dust and dirt which are being built up on hair everyday. Daily shampoos are not enough to wash off the built-up and therefore, you need one deep cleansing/ clarifying shampoo to help you do the trick. Your hair will definitely feel lighter and shinier afterwards. But remember, once a week is good enough, excessive usage would lead to drying out of hair.
Do Use Conditioner
Unless you have really oily hair, conditioner helps replenish the lost oils and nutrients to hair. Apply the conditioner to hair (from middle of hair to hair end) and let it sit for at least 2 to 3 minutes (let the nutrients absorbed) before wash off. Don't apply it to your scalp as it would block the growth of hair, which could result in hair loss, and weigh down hair.
Do Use Deep Hair Treatment Once a Week
Replenishing nutrients to hair regularly helps keep hair healthy. Spend 10 to 15 minutes each week to add back the lost nutrients and moisture to hair. The best time to do it is while you are relaxing yourself in the bath tub. The heat generated from the steam help hair absorb its "food" better.
Do Massage Your Scalp
Massage your scalp regularly to stimulate blood circulation, it is one of the tricks to get healthy hair.
Don't Wash Hair Too Often
Don't over-wash your hair, especially when you have dry hair. Wash once every two days would let natural oils built on hair and it won't dry out hair. If you have a habit to wash it everyday, suggest to skip shampoo every other day.
Don't Rub Your Hair While Drying
When drying hair, don't rub the towel on hair as it only damages the hair structure itself instead of helping it dry faster. Just wrap a towel on wet hair and let it absorb the excess moisture. Let hair air dry, if possible.
Don't Dye/ Perm Your Hair Too Often
We all know that the hair dyes and perms contain a lot of harmful chemicals, it would be best to give hair a few months' rest in between dyes and perms. It's understood that you might want to change your hair color or style once in awhile just to get a new look. Just don't over do it because you cannot revive seriously damaged hair, you can only sacrifice it by cutting it.
Long hair is hard to attained, especially healthy long hair. Just follow the simple tips above and you will have that perfect hair in no time.
