When someone hits your dog

by Murina

This is purely just my opinion but I think you should never "hit" an animal. When they misbehave a small "spat" will suffice just as well. You don't have to beat your dog to train them. There are all kinds of ways to train them that are more effective and more rewarding to both you and the pet. There is a point to where a "spat" turns into abuse and I cannot see how someone could pass that point. My dogs are my life. They bring so much joy to my life. I couldn't imagine them being in pain from something that was initially done for no other reason than to just do it.

I feel like no one other than me or my boyfriend should reprimand our puppy. It angers me greatly when I see all the abuse and neglect to animals on the T.V. I know most times it starts out that people are trying to help when they take up stray animals but some get overwhelmed and therefor just do nothing. I watch alot of animal shows on tv and it tears me up to see all the abuse. I feel that if you can't take care of it you don't need it.
We have experienced a scary situation with our lab mix that we keep outside. He got out of our yard and ran to the trailer park beside our house. We were devastated that he had got out. We looked and looked for him. When we did find him however he was being kicked at. He was laying on the ground trying to protect himself but the guy kept on kicking. Granted he is a big dog but he wouldn't hurt a flea. My boyfriend asked the guy why he was kicking at him and if our dog bite him he said no that he just don't like stray animals in his yard.I was so upset; I just can't imagine why someone would want to hit a dog. Well, we found out later that this guy hits every dog or stray animal that comes to his yard. I don't know if there is anything that can be done about this but I know for us we try to help any stray animal that comes into our yard.
I understand there are times however that require a person to defend themselves from animals. If a person is being attacked I think they are right to defend themselves. Alot of the domesticated animals in these cases that I have heard about have had rough lives. Just as the great Pit Bull debate. I feel and I'm sure I will get alot of bad comments about this but i feel alot of Pit Bulls act upon what they are taught at home. I think that if you raise a puppy right to learn what is acceptable and what is not they will be a safe dog.
