Coleslaw is a wonderful addition to a home-cooked meal or a family picnic. These coleslaw recipes require minimal preparation and make wonderful side dishes for home, picnic or party meals. The following recipe requires no mayonnaise and can be prepared in just a few minutes.

Grandma Wood's Coleslaw dressing
1 cup (regular or reduced) fat sour cream
1 Tbsp. lemon juice

1 Tbsp. water
1 Tbsp. vinegar
2 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/4 tsp. celery seed
Stir these ingredients together in a large bowl. Set aside.
Shred 3 cups of green cabbage and 1 cup of red cabbage; grate 1 cup of carrots and then combine with dressing and mix well. Cover and refrigerate.

The following recipe requires mayonnaise and has been a favorite for many years. It requires the same amount of preparation as the recipe above and is equally delicious.

Grandma Robertson's Mayonnaise Coleslaw dressing
3 Tbsp. mayonnaise
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1/3 cup sugar
1 Tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/4 tsp. celery seed
1 Tbsp. milk or cream
Stir these ingredients together in a large bowl. Set aside.
Shred 3 cups of green cabbage and 1 cup of red cabbage; grate 1 cup of carrots and then combine with dressing and mix well. Cover and refrigerate.

Grandma Park's Buttermilk Coleslaw Dressing
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 Tbsp pickle juice
1/4 tsp.dry mustard
1/4 tsp. celery seed
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
Stir these ingredients together in a large bowl. Set aside.
Shred 3 cups of green cabbage and 1 cup of red cabbage; grate 1 cup of carrots and then combine with dressing and mix well. Cover and refrigerate.

The following recipe is my personal favorite. Not too sweet, not too tangy, just perfect.

Cindy's Coleslaw Dressing
3/4 cup mayonnaise
3 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp. vinegar
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1/8 tsp onion powder
1/8 tsp dry mustard
1/8 tsp celery salt
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
1/2 cup half-and-half
1/2 tsp. salt
Stir these ingredients together in a large bowl. Set aside.
Shred 3 cups of green cabbage and 1 cup of red cabbage; grate 1 cup of carrots and then combine with dressing and mix well. Cover and refrigerate.

All of these coleslaw dressing recipes are delicious and require little time to prepare. Coleslaw is a wonderful complement to most meat dishes and is also a healthy, low-calorie food choice.
