If,
for no other reason than passing the day,
I gathered my thoughts and sat for a while
wondering and wishing
through cobwebs and memories
what dreams may come,
what visions
what learning?
If I could be, for just one day
A rested soul,
or perhaps far, far away!'
but time slips past,
like the rolling clouds
moments merge, and days, and years
and all I have is the memory of the clocks
their metered notes,
their familiar knocks
what futile venture,
this vision, this yearning
that such a dream is loss -
- not learning
so comes the night,
the creatures whisper
the mocking tones,
the knowing glances
and still I see those clouds roll by
no rested souls
no spring
no morning
still swaddled in an anxious veil
I glance upon my own obscured scene
Obtuse or coy,
I'm certainly skilled
till once again I find time to dream.

You're late again; I should
