Mike Myers has been known as an exceptional character actor since the 1980's, when the world was first introduced to him through Saturday Night Live. He's the creative powerhouse behind Wayne from "Wayne's World", Austin Powers and Dr. Evil (among others) from the extremely popular "Austin Powers" trilogy, and even the animated ogre Shrek. So when he revealed his newest character, the bizarre Guru Pitka, central character to the film, "The Love Guru", audiences were expecting a lot out of this comedic giant. It was soon clear, however, that neither the audiences or critics were loving "The Love Guru". The film just wrapped up its third week, and has grossed a mere $29,427,850, which doesn't even begin to cover the film's $62,000,000 budget. So what went wrong?
Even before I read the negative reviews, I wasn't very excited for this film. I thought the previews looked mediocre and didn't really think the character was developed quite as much as the rest of Myers' star characters were. However, I went against my gut feeling and decided to see the movie anyway. It couldn't be that bad, right? Unfortunately for myself and every other poor soul forced to endure this horrible excuse for a movie, words cannot even begin to describe what I experienced while watching this film. It was bad in every possible way; nearly every joke failed and the entire film felt like more of a form of torture than a form of entertainment. As I sat there, taking it all in, I wondered how anyone could have ever thought that any of this was a good idea. It was as if Mike Meyers had taken all of the bad qualities of his others films, then combined them with a lot of famous stars and badly executed penis jokes, coming up with a result which I can safely call the worst film I've ever seen. Please don't get me wrong, I enjoy stupid humor and sexual innuendos just as much as the next person. This, however, was the most poorly executed movie I've ever seen.
The basic plot goes as follows: The Toronto Maple Leafs are getting ready to play in the Stanley Cup Finals against the Los Angeles Kings, and it looks as if things are in their favor. Trouble arises, however, when their star player (the so called "Tiger Woods" of hockey), Darren Roanoke (Romany Malco) begins focusing more on hockey than pleasing his wife, Prudence (oh, what an ironic name). Outraged and spurned, Prudence begins sleeping with the opposing team's goalie, Jacques "Le Coq" Grande (Justin Timberlake), who is known for more than his
