As parents, don't we all wish our daughters pass on the experimental stage with make-up? Everybody has a different opinion as to when a girl is too young to wear make-up, but it is important to weigh the facts and issues for your own personal determination and opinion.
First, with the media erupting and the "perfect image" pictures in modern day magazines, such as Seventeen, Cosmo Girl, J-14, and so on, girls are trying to mature more quickly to have that same look, but is that what women 'should look like'? And isn't it funny that girls want to grow up fast, yet once we are older, we wish we were young again?
Young girls turn to these fashion magazines and see that there is a lot of make-up on the models, and they believe that is how they should wear make-up themselves. Wrong. Magazines are there to advertise the colour and texture of that make-up product, not what it should look like on the model. Young girls often do not interpret ideas the way female adults do. They don't necessarily know right from wrong when they are "brainwashed" with images.
Secondly, is it necessary to wear make-up at such a young age? Does that young girl have unwanted blemishes and birth marks she wishes to cover up? These are factors to weigh and determine that it is okay to make make-up, as long as it's applied with responsibility.
In the older days, women wore very little, if not any make-up. Today, society is all about seducing and impressing males, which seems to lead to younger girls looking a lot older than their actual age. There are 14 year old girls that make themselves look like "20-year old hookers", yet they believe this is beautiful.
Determining whether a young girl will wear make-up can actually be the result of the involvement of the parental role. By healthy interference and stability in a relationship, a young girl is most likely to turn to either her mother or her father for tips and advice on what's right and wrong. A deprived girl may have a higher chance of getting attention by copying what she sees in a magazine. So, whether a young girl is 14 years old or 18 years old, starting to wear make-up, if she knows how to respectively apply the make-up, then it is okay to do so. Responsibility, respect, and make-up should all fade into one another, not clash, making a "clown-like" look on that poor girl's once-beautiful face.
