"My Mom's New Boyfriend" had a lot of good actors in it. With Meg Ryan and Antonio Banderas I thought there was some chance of having a good movie to watch. After watching the movie on DVD, I was terribly mistaken.
Meg Ryan is an overweight mother in the beginning to a Homeland Security son. In the airport when she was seeing her son off, someone dropped money into her coffee because they think she was a homeless lady. That woke up Meg Ryan and she lost tons of weight.
When her son decided to grace her with his presence years later, he was shocked to see his mom so skinny. His mother went from being the overweight, depressed mom, to someone who slept with about everyone in town. There would be men his age or younger running in and out of the house. There were men singing to his mom at all hours of the night.
Meg Ryan meets Antonio Banderas and they hit it off. After having a meeting, Meg Ryan's son finds out Antonio Banderas is a wanted international thief. Meg's son has to spy on the two of them while they date and have sex in order to catch Antonio. In the end, they find out that Antonio Banderas is a government employee who is trying to frame his other two partners for their crimes.
The movie's only good scene was when Antonio did his famous gun slinging moves. Meg Ryan's acting stunk in this movie. It was hard to even concentrate on her acting with her botoxed lips and stretched face. I sure do miss her in "Sleepless in Seattle" or "You've Got Mail". She was innocent and didn't mess up her face with the plastic surgery. Colin Hanks did a good job of playing a Homeland Security officer. He was professional and strict with things.
I hope for the sake of Antonio Banderas that he sticks to action movies. I hope for the sake of Meg Ryan she sticks to romantic comedies and stops with the plastic surgery. Colin Hanks has a lot of potential as he has shown in other movies like "Untraceable". Salma Blair should stick to comedies as well. She is definitely not a person who should play a government employee. She is a little too goofy for that.
It took everything I had in me to stay in the seat and continue with this terribly boring movie. There were a few funny parts, but it took so long to have them, I almost fell asleep. Don't bother wasting any of your time or money renting this movie. I hope that you didn't make the mistake of going to the theatre for this one or you'll surely be disappointed.
