My ideal wrestling dream match

by Jered Slusher

Created on: July 13, 2008

My ideal wrestling dream match is Shawn Michaels Vs. Jeff Hardy in a ladder match for the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 25.

Throughout his illustrious career, Shawn Michaels has captured the hearts of many WWE fans from all over the world. HBK has risen to the top of the profession and for years has performed on a level that many superstars can only dream of. Jim Ross once said that "nobody out performs Shawn Michaels in a big match situation" and I would have to agree. In his career, Shawn Michaels and his colorful outfits, trademark theme music, and excellent wrestling ability have redefined what it means to be "cool" in the professional wrestling industry.

Taking a page out of Shawn Michael's book is the charismatic enigma known as Jeff Hardy. Jeff 's unusual appearance and high-risk offense "clicks" with the crowds of today. The bar of "cool" that Shawn Michaels set years ago has risen with Hardy's trademark pendant necklace, fishnet armbands, colorful hair and high energy entrance. Not to be outdone, Shawn Michaels still pulls in a strong positive crowd response. The fans would be the ultimate winners, with two of the most charismatic and interesting superstars facing off for the biggest prize in the game the WWE Title.

Shawn Michaels has held the WWE Championship on three separate occasions defeating Sycho Sid at the Royal Rumble in 1997, and defeating Bret Hart on two occasions: one at "The Montreal Screwjob" in 1997 and one in a 60 minute Iron Man Match at Wrestlemania XII. Shawn Michaels fended off many challengers and led the WWE Championship into the "attitude" era.

Although Jeff Hardy has never been WWE Champion, he has left a strong impact on the WWE Intercontinental and Tag Team titles. Jeff Hardy is a four time Intercontinental Champion and a six time WWE Tag Team Champion with his brother Matt. Although Hardy had the opportunity to win the WWE Title at the 2008 Royal Rumble against Randy Orton, he came up short and since has not come close to the WWE Title.

Going into the match at Wrestlemania 25, Shawn Michaels will be the WWE Champion by defeating Triple H at the Royal Rumble in an inter-promotional RAW Vs. Smackdown match. Via a stipulation to prevent the title from ever leaving the brand again, Shawn Michaels will only be able to defend the title on Smackdown. So how will Jeff Hardy get his opportunity for a shot at the WWE Championship?

Jeff Hardy will do the very thing that Shawn Michaels did consecutively in 1995 and 1996: Win the WWE Royal
