This is a poem
That I can never give you
Because it consists of me
Telling you
How special you are.
But I can't tell you that
Because you just might believe it
And it might push you
Into the arms
Of someone else
Full of artificial sweetener.
But I will try not to sugar coat
What I want to say.
I just want to tell you
That you still give me a warm sensation
When I think about you.
It starts in my heart,
I can feel it in my stomach,
And then it ends in small tear
Rolling down my cheek.
Because you are not here,
But I am still longing for you.
I can picture your deep brown eyes
Looking into mine.
I want to kiss you softly
Because I know you will return my kisses,
Just as soft,
Just as sweet.
I want to hold your hand,
Caress your face,
And tell you all of these things.
But I can't,
Because it's just not the same
If you don't feel it too.
I just wish you would realize
How much I love you
And how I want to be the one
You go to
When all of the troubles of the world
Are tugging at your sleeve.
But I just can't spell it out for you.
It's something you have to realize
On your own time.
And I know that time may never come,
But I still pray for it
Every single day.
I didn't figure you out,
Until it was too late.
But now that I know you,
I know you are someone
I want to be with.
Someone I want to hold.
Someone I want to take care of.
Someone I want protecting me,
Keeping me warm
From the coldness of the world.
But I can't tell you all this,
Because it might push you further away.
And although you are good
At shutting out
Those who care about you,
I am good
At pushing away
Those I care about.
So I'm letting you go.
I'm letting you go
Wherever you want to go.
And I hope
If you ever decide to return
To the one who loves you,
My prayers won't have let up.
And I will still be here,
With open arms,
Open mind,
Open heart.
Then we can share the same soft kiss
We shared in Times Square.
And we'll start over again,
Because now I know who you are,
And you're someone I want
Keeping me warm.
