Poetry: Sunsets

by David Smith

Sunset

Behold the city!

The towering edifices
proud, as the light comes,
the colours of the day rolled into one
condensed,
reduced

The buildings are alive,
the shops, the houses, the markets, the squares
Their details exquisite in orange lights

The shadows draw long
The production closes

Applause

The lights dim
The colours fade
The darkness comes

Night.
