The duties of the United States Congress may be briefly expressed by the protection of the United States and US citizens, legislating needed laws for the advancement of the US and it's citizens and representing, as much as possible, constituent's expressed requirements. Congressmen would do well to realize that they have not been elected to use the legislative branch of the government as a leverage position to block the programs of the administrative and judicial branches at all costs as revenge for past election results. This is use of their powers as a political weapon and it is not correct with the Congressional mandate.
In 2000 and 2004 the elected administrative branch of the government put forth a proposal for the US Congress to pass legislation to allow drilling for oil on the continental shelf and construction of refineries. The purpose of this legislation would be to solve the energy dependence of the US on foreign oil. This dependence has put the US economy in jeopardy in the past and in this current time. It is clear that the US Congress does not care that the problem of rising prices for gas and oil with the further creation of a negative effect on the US economy and US business. Just as long as they win the election in 2008 they believe they are justified for the collateral damage. The collateral damage consists, at this time, of failing trucking business, automobile production companies, the airlines and hardships for the citizens of the US trying to exist on overtaxed budgets. Congress should have their partner in these efforts, the left biased media, print the headline, "US Citizens can go to HELL". It is obvious that the US citizens are but, road kill to the Liberal controlled Congress.
Congress understands human nature and they know that in three months the public will forget their blocking actions for the energy independence proposals or that the public will attach blame to any source which is ostracized as the cause of
