Paper pages fluttering to the ground
A lifetime's worth of verbal preferences
Dancing gathering in corners dark
a rippled, meandering fall to earth,
drifting in mounds of ecstatic questing
the book purchased in a Paris book stand on a
cloudless autumn day. A first edition signed
by the dear friend who wrote it.
The silent hush of footsteps, coupled
with the languid turn of pages,
in a favorite bookstore -
A sustenance for heart and mind.
Her path is nearing its end,
this seeker of the word . . .
A journey toward
the forgetfulness of dementia,
A lifelong search of words passing
exchanging hands,
A simple business transaction,
cutting away,
pieces of her soul.
