How to keep your New Year's resolutions

and more like an accomplishment when you don't order a full meal at that fast food place.

3. "I WILL STOP GETTING ANGRY AT TOM."
While this is a specific desire, it is not 100% doable solely because there is another person involved. It would be better to say, "I will not allow my anger to speak for me when dealing with Tom" or "I will do my best to count to ten before speaking when Tom makes me upset". Because most people know how to push our buttons, the minute that you get angry or hurt with the person, you consider the resolution a failure and decide that you can't change or that it's all Tom's fault. If you acknowledge the fact that you can't prevent yourself from feeling anger in certain situations, it will be easier for you to handle said situations. Therefore, when making this kind of resolution, resolve to handle the anger in a different manner than you normally would and work toward that.

Know that most resolutions are made with the best of intentions and the strongest of desires to carry them through but generalizations or unreal resolutions are doomed to failure. Think over your resolutions and narrow them down to specifics or make them more obtainable. Also, if you fail to work out at the gym one week or you have that Little Debbie or you let your anger speak for you, don't give up. Resolutions are something that takes effort and time to realize. Just pick up where you left off and start again.

Here are some resolutions that are easy to follow and are guaranteed to make your (and someone else's) day!

1. "I WILL SAY GOOD MORNING TO AT LEAST FIVE PEOPLE EVERYDAY, WITH A SMILE AND EYE CONTACT, EVEN IF I HAVEN'T HAD MY CUP OF COFFEE YET."
2. "I WILL SAY GOOD EVENING TO AT LEAST FIVE PEOPLE EVERYDAY EVEN IF I'VE HAD A TRYING AND STRESSFUL TIME."
3. "I WILL SMILE AT THOSE THAT PASS BY ME IN THE STORE AND WITH THE CASHIER THAT RINGS UP MY PURCHASES, EVEN IF THEY APPEAR HAGGARD AND UNFRIENDLY."
4. "I WILL SAY THANK YOU' AND EXCUSE ME' TO THOSE THAT I INTERACT WITH DAILY."
5. "I WILL OVER-TIP' THE WAITER OR WAITRESS REGARDLESS OF SERVICE, LEAVING 15 TO 20 PERCENT ON AVERAGE EVERY TIME."

Think of some more that will make other people's days more pleasant and will uplift those around you, as well as uplifting yourself. Know that these kinds of resolutions are easy to keep and become habit much faster than you can imagine once you put them into practice. They are also contagious!

Have a happy and safe new year!
