Bless
The people in my life
who saw through all
the insecurities
and measured me
against the smallest bar
the faces
I see now
and long for.

Ned
A simple man
with Giants shoulders
and hands that ploughed
soft and patient
against time and turbulence.

All around him worlds were changing
Nations rose and fell on deafened ears
closeted comfy in his milk parlour
he dreamed of tomorrow
and talked of days begun.

His ancient Ford
was his passion
and on its fenders we played
emboldened
by his nurturing calls
we faced the roads and fields
like charioteers
in Tr na Ng

Every day
was a new day
with differing trials
we'd wake and wonder
what joy we'd plunder from his awesome bounty
and times too
when rugged hands
embraced my shoulders
in comfort he would soothe me
all knowing
all forgiving.

I pass his gravestone every day
yet never stop and linger
nor will a prayer eer leave my lips
to God beseeching favour
for one who touched my very soul
and dangled life itself in tease
in words so few and sparing
oh Nations rise and Nations fall
and time's a scything tyrant
yet one mans
ploughed and gilded path
will always be
my haven.
