Top ten movies of all time

by Joseph Brown

Created on: July 12, 2008

Reading over the lists on this article I have come to realize a few movies that very few people added in their lists but should still be top movies. I realize that a few of my movies many other people and critics think is incredibly bad, but I saw most of these movies as I was growing up and haven't watched them since so the thoughts of the movie still lingers in my head. And I still haven't seen such classics as Citizen Kane or Casablanca yet but this is a list of best movies I've seen so far.

Number 10
Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins

There is little doubt that the most memorable aspect of The Silence of the Lambs is Anthony Hopkins' incomparable performance as Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Beating Brian Cox to the role this time, Anthony Hopkins makes the Hannibal series his and his alone. No matter who else plays a Hannibal Lecter role in the future, Anthony Hopkins is the only one who will play it the way it should be played.

Number 9
The Godfather Part II (1974)
Al Pacino, Robert De Niro

Not nearly as good as it's predecessor, but still good in it's own aspects. The highlight of this film has got to be Robert De Niro, playing young Vito Corleone, soon to be crime lord. Nobody would have thought that anyone could play the part of Vito as well as Marlon Brando but here he is. I didn't enjoy the scenes in the present time nearly as much as the flashback scenes of Vito Corleone's life, but still good nonetheless.

Number 8
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Tom Hanks, Tom Sizemore, Matt Damon

Excellent movie. That's all I can say about this. During the entire movie you know what's going to happen at the end, but there is something about the way that Hanks acts in this movie, unlike his others.

Number 7
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman

Now, normally Morgan Freeman really grinds my gears, but this is the most memorable performance by him, or everyone else in the movie ever. A story of friendship is shown in the best way possible, through Frank Darabont's eyes. I think it is this director's best movie and if anyone says otherwise I think there will be riots.

Number 6
Rocky (1976)
Sylvester Stallone, Talia Shire

Like Saving Private Ryan, this movie is pretty obvious. You know what's going to happen next and how it's going to finish. But the star isn't Sylvester Stallone with his barely audible speaking, but Talia Shire, Burt Young and Burgess Meredeth who makes this movie so fantastic. This actor trio is required if you are to bring the story of
