Poetry: Depression

by David Smith

Created on: July 12, 2008

Into the Shadows

I flee again to that safe place
to the distance I fly where the world is still
The still, still light of sun,
warm, slow
it beckons

Where are the doors?
opened on the Sabbath
dark, blind
uninhibited
they receive

My world is unfastened
the shutters in the storm
the clatter and the frenzy
it disturbs,

My world is rain
Flooded
Drowning

Madness

My world is calm
the surface of abandoned lake
cool
it soothes

My world is dark
No sun, no calm
the routine,
blinding
damaging
pale and drained

The light shines
it blinds
too painful,

Into the shadows again.
