Yes, it is possible to predict the sex of the child without endangering him or her with ultrasound tests just for the novelty of knowing. I read a fascinating book several years ago entitled THE JOY of BEING a WOMAN and WHAT a MAN CAN DO by Ingrid Trobisch. She and her husband were missionaries in a primitive land where they had to teach the women birth control without the benefit of any modern devices. Nowadays, everyone knows that you conceive while you are ovulating but most women do not understand how they can use that timing of those days to their advantage if they really want to make sure that they have either a boy or girl baby. In the book, the author explains how they taught the native women to monitor the days of the month.

For sex selection, it is quite simple and makes incredible sense when you step back to consider it. When women "do not feel like making love," it is a tremendous sacrifice to do so anyway to please their husbands. That is the height of submission and selfless love to make another person happy. This is when a boy baby is conceived which also explains why boy babies are prized so highly in most cultures. Simply phrased, it is harder to create a boy baby when you have to work at it without the usual excitable fun component that comes naturally to women. It takes more discipline.

Contrariwise, when a woman feels most passionate, those are the girl baby conception days. I think this natural feeling occurs right after she finishes her menstrual cycle. It would make sense because there is more lubrication which somehow translates into desire.

If you have a background in psychology, it is interesting to observe how this phenomenon of human nature plays out in families. I can always tell when the husband is a very dominant, strong-willed choleric head of the household who usually persuades everyone around him to do things his way, when he wants it done. You will see more boys in the family in many instances. He has a compliant wife who is not pushing her own agenda. Likewise, if you see a string of girls in a family, then the wife tends to be the one who sets the timing and agenda. For families with both boys and girls, that is a nice statement that each marriage partner is giving selflessly to the other, taking turns.

I have not heard this sex selection theory in "old wives' tales" but it must surely be cycled around in certain cultures as a fact. It would be interesting to go back to the author's group of women and find out what they thought
