How to plan an affordable wedding

An affordable wedding is easy to plan, the trick is to stick to your plan. You need a budget of how much you wish to spend on the dress, decorations, food, flowers, etc. I have been to weddings that cost a few hundred dollars to weddings that cost as much as a small home. But the concept is the same, two people who are in love with each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together.

One of my best friends got married with the sweetest down to earth wedding. Her sister made her wedding cake. Nothing too complicated, it was simple and made with love. Her dress was a white dress, not a wedding dress, just a dress for summer time, maybe even a sundress look. This was a summer wedding and for flowers they took old mason jars and filled them with daisies with red and white checkered tablecloths. The rest of the food was brought by family. It was simple and yet loving.

My own wedding cost about $3000 after I added all the credit card purchases up. My dress was a simple empire waste, long white dress I bought from a department store for about $70. My veil I got at a consignment store for $30. I got married on Valentine's Day and I insisted on red roses for the flowers which cost quite a bit for 5 dozen roses. But they were beautiful, and no, I did not get them from a florist, rather a grocery store along with my cake. I got heart and dove decorations to hang and leave out around the house. Did I mention I had my wedding in my future living room? I also got those Valentine doilies to use under bowls of Valentine candy and candles. I did get certain items that were over the top. I bought glass goblets with red stems for everyone there. I had a small wedding so with a total of 14 you can do some things to extreme. Since there were so few in attendance and we didn't have a rehearsal dinner, everyone went to dinner after the wedding. I thought it would be so special if we had our wedding in our home so we would have that opportunity to walk by where we got married every day.

Making a wedding your own is the key. I once went to a wedding where the bride sold Longaberger baskets. The whole wedding was filled with baskets and dinnerware Longaberger style. And for every family in attendance, they recieved their very own Longaberger basket. A keepsake that will be a reminder of their blessed event for a lifetime.
You can do whatever you want for your wedding, it is your day! So use your creative side and if you don't have one...use someone elses! Keep your eye on the future, this is only the beginning, don't start out in debt!
