Yes! Computer repair fraud is everywhere and your only defense is what you know. Knowledge is power! How do you know if the computer company or technician is giving you the correct information and a fair price? Unless you shop around a bit you don't. Being in the "know" is the most powerful tool you have to combat computer repair fraud. Whether you believe it or not there are companies out there small (a single technician), medium (mom and pop shops) and large (Corporations) that are out to get your money. How? Most of these companies see a window when you call them for service. The window I speak of is the opportunity to keep charging you with new upgrades, fixes and unnecessary work performed on your home or business PC's. How do they get away with it? They prey on your lack of knowledge.
I want to make this clear. Not all technical companies are out to defraud you. In my opinion it's about a fifty percent chance that you will get a great company that believes in true customer satisfaction. Every company out there claims to the be the best. The highest customer service standards etc. etc. But there truly are very few.
I am a firm believer as a part time owner of a technical company that quality work brings you quality repeat customers. Yes it is true I am in the business to make a little extra money. However I am very thorough when working with my customers. I will train my customers to do maintenance on their computers on their own, including a written checklist that allows them to easily maintain their Home PC's. I also offer my customers a remote assistance program for a very small fee that allows a one month check up on their pc's to make sure it's running at it's best. I believe I am one of the very few that has a follow through with my customers. I am what a technician should be. I am not being cocky by any means. I am just one of those people that if I pay 20.00 for a steak I will make sure I'm getting what I paid for. I believe everyone should get what they pay for. That is what I do for my customers. And because of this I know that my customers are thoroughly satisfied with the service I provide. This in my opinion is how all support companies should be.
I believe that a lot of the corporate companies and you know who they are, send technicians out to repair your pc. Most are inexperienced entry level workers trying to break into the industry with a first time job. Many of the corporate support companies dumb down the repairs by writing software
