Sex and the City

based on the novel "Sex and the City" by Candace Bushnell
starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Chris Noth, Willie Garson, Candice Bergen, Jennifer Hudson, David Eigenberg, Evan Handler, Jason Lewis
Ah, Love. After six seasons reveling in the perpetual pursuance of carnal delights and the subsequent fallout emerging from such matters, the girls find themselves four years older, and a wee bit wiser. Charlotte (Davis) is gleefully married to Harry (Handler) and busy nurturing her Chinese toddler Lily (Alexandra Fong). Samantha is still way out in L.A.with her hotshot tv star Smith (Lewis) and suffering through deep pangs of lust for her next door neighbor Dante (Gilles Marini). Carrie is planning a major move-in with Big after she is knocked out by a glitzy penthouse apartment that he subsequently purchases for her. Miranda goes through a sticky breakup with Steve (Eigenberg) after he tells her he slept with another woman.
All told, the film is substantially heavier than the series. There are many moments of deep despair and confusion as the several of the characters try to figure out how to best retake command of their lives. In particular there is Carrie. She addresses to Big that is she and he were to break up she would be out of the apartment because he owns it. He remedies this concern by suggesting they get married. No romance, no frills, just a strict proposal much like a business arrangement. Carrie agrees and they set a date. However, Big gets cold feet and ends up abandoning Carrie as she waits for him at the New York Public Library, the site of their wedding. Big is thrown off by the size of the wedding party and the enormity of the wedding. After the wedding debacle, Carrie severs all ties with Big and immediately goes into a substantial depression. These moments with Carrie are delicately rendered and the emotional hell she is feeling is expertly rendered on Sarah Jessica Parker's face. There are several closeups that reveal Carrie's internal agony as she attempts to make a life for herself sans Big.
The film deals primarily with the relationships these women now find themselves engrossed in. The series ended with each woman entangled in these same relationships and the film is merely an extension of the show's conclusion four years hence. Miranda and Steve have stopped having sex as it's been six months since their last encounter. Out of desperation Steve
