Poetry: Broken & lost

by David Smith

Decay

The big city lights,
the billboards and beauty
the town square, the park benches
So many faces -
on the Hills in cities
on rivers and canals
in buildings
On rain drenched bridges where footsteps dissolve,
the passers by forgotten,
the ghosts of tourists through the mist and taxi spray
Leaves and dust
Newspapers fly, old print in flight
or warmth for the homeless man
Torn posters on cracked columns,
the crackling neon signs
Broken glass, the sagging shop fronts
the blind alley, the blind man
faded billboards, washed out beauty
the Town square, the Park Benches
So many faces
Decay
