Poetry: Barricades

by William Burkholder

Created on: July 11, 2008

Half Percent

Stone by stone,
Brick by brick,
I shall disassemble this barricade.

This stone curtain to the true me.
I languish in human cares.
I hear my soul screaming far off distant cries.

Pleading to be released,
My rationale, tainted by this world.
Like so many others,

I have succumbed to the earthly,
The physical...

99-1/2 % normal...

But I never have been, nor will I ever be.
And in that, I take comfort at least.

My 1/2 percent is my continuing struggle.
to attain and ascend a deeper understanding
of my self and of others.

Open eyes, and rubbled barricades,
O, the sight and sound of an imagined day,
where this and come to pass.
