Memoirs: The most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you

"I'm in heaven!" I thought, as I got ready to get dressed to finally tackle the sky-high black diamond that I had been DYING to go down ever since I walked into the ski resort. My family and I were sharing a cabin right next to another ski slope, so you could easily put on your skis, hop the fence and ride the chairlift up to the ski slopes. Heaven, it was. I loved skiing so much. Skiing was my hobby since I moved away from the HOT Arizona when I was about two and a half years old. My parents had taken me skiing the first winter we moved.

This time skiing, though, was different. In our nicely furnished cabin, there was my bedroom. It had two windows that were from ceiling to floor with blinds that sucked so much, I didn't use them. Typically I would change into my ski clothes in the bathroom across from my bedroom, but this time I decided it would be much easier to change in my room. I had forgotten all about the windows, and I began to put on my bra, and I realized something was wrong. There were people staring at me outside my window. There was a dad and his child, and a few other skiers too. I got so scared that I dropped the pink Victoria's Secret bra in my hand and hurled myself onto my bed, hoping it would cover me up.

The skiers still got a rather long glimpse of my pink laced underwear that matched my bra. The father of the small child in the pink coat was trying to encourage her to go another way, but the girl was already fixated on another small child (me) wearing adult underclothes. I looked up again from my bed and realized that I was practically mooning these poor people watching me, as more skiers and snowboarders came to see. What was the commotion? A girl trying to change into clothes. My fellow snow sports lovers had began to go away as I tried to wiggle myself onto my messed up blanket on my bed. That didn't really help much, though, because the blanket only fell off the bed. I grabbed my bathrobe, shoved it on, and ran across the hallway to the bathroom. Privacy at last.

"Mom, mom... hide me, close the blinds or something..."

"What happened?"

"I forgot to close the blinds and those people out there saw me!"

"Who?"

"A girl and her father and some other people, too!"

"It's okay, honey, he's a dad. He understands."

I had my mom check my blinds and fix them up a bit so I could use them again. The next day, the same people had gone by my window, but without the naked child in lacy underwear looking back at them. Some people gave me weird looks as I slid down the snowy mountains, for they had known what was under my North Face ski coat. I couldn't believe I had been so stupid. The rest of the ski trip I had closed the blinds in shame, because I had forgotten to before.
