Short stories: Inspirational

It was another typical day in my life. Get up, get two kids up, have breakfast and head down the street to the tiny Christian school where I taught a mixed level class of second throgh fourth graders. My own son was one one of my students, well loved and a leafer in whateve mischief might be brewing that day. Our school and church were vey smallso we were m=vey much a family, more than just a school. Since the day was a Wednesday, our evening would be rushed, dinner church and back home again. Jim and I taught a Bible Club on Wednesday nights, so it was always a busy time to get ready. Yet, even though it was all the same, nothing seemed the same lately, as our family had been going through an extrememly difficult time. Who knew that before the night was ove, our emotions, faith and joy would be broken and reunited in a split second.

After Bible Club, Jim and my son Noah decided to walk one of Noah's friends and classmate home while I finished cleaning up. I was busily cleaning up all the litter from the crafts that we had made, when someone burstthrough the door, screaming my name. "Miss Janice, Miss Janice, hurry, Noah has ben hit by a car". I had slipped my shoes off while working, and ran without them outside to the spot where a good sized crowd had already formed. The police were there holding eveyone back. They tried to stop me but allowed me through when I said "I'm his mother".Jim was there no knowing what to do to "fix this". My son lay in the road, screaming at the top of his lungs. He had run into the street to cross the road, right into the path of the car, which was going thirty five miles an hour. He broke the hood ornamant with his head, and he was in extreme pain. He could not be calmed down, so I lay in the road beside him trying to comfort him. He kept screaming over and over again "Mommy don't let me die". I sang to him and repeated Bible verses until the ambulance arrived. Noah had landed face down in sand and rock and skidded. His eyes were closed with imbedded dirt and sand.

Noah and I were so distraught that they would not allow me to ride in the ambulance. My husband rode with him and a friend drove me to the hospital. We had tried to contact our Pastor who had already left the church, but could not reach him. A friend called their pastor and he met us at the hospital.

When we arrived, Noah's screams could be heard all over the Emergency Room. His stomach was sweeling and very tender. The doctor came out and told us that he thought Noah had severe internal injuries. He gave him a fifty percent chance of survival. The Pastor arrived and prayed ove Noah. His crying and screaming stopped at once and he was calm. My husbandand I waited and prayed in the waiting room while they ran more tests. At two in the morning, a doctor came in and with a bewildered look on his face, said that Noah had nothing more than a concussion.

Noah went home the next day, and is now twenty six years old. At the time of the accident he was nine. Our whole family still remembers how God healed Noah's injuries and gave him back to us.
