Good projects for helping kids get involved in the environment

There are many fun and effective ways to get your kids involved and excited about the environment.

The first and simplest method might be to inspire your child's interest in wildlife by taking a trip to the zoo. Kids have a natural affection for animals, and once they are made to understand that threse lovable animals might not always have a home if we don't help to protect it, your kids are sure to be better about recycling and conserving than we are!

The next fun idea involves some healthy participation with your child's school. Organize a contest that involves the neighborhood kids, offering a prize for the best environmental conservation poster. Then hang all the entries up around the halls of your school, brightening the corridors and showcasing your child's talents. Suggestions for topics might include water conservation at home, utilizing trash receptacles rather than littering, and riding a bike rather than driving. The possibilities are endless, and kids always love a good contest!

Another great activity for getting your child excited about helping the environment is to take a weekly walk to a local park or beach. Walk around the park each week, cleaning up litter, noting the local flora and fauna of the area, or checking out the tidal pools.

Your kids will love this weekly tradition as they develop a deep and abiding respect for the environment and their role in preserving it.
