It is hard to keep it to yourself when you first find out that you are pregnant. You want to tell the whole world, but you would like to achieve it in a fun way. After the mommy and daddy know they are going to have a little one, the next step is telling their parents. This can be one of the most fun times of your life. Use your imagination to tell your parents they are going to be grandparents. It is a moment in their lives that they will never forget, especially if this is the first time that they will be grandparents.
How to tell your parents that you are pregnant:
1. Face to face- The easiest way to tell your parents your wonderful news is face to face. That is, when it's a welcome surprise. Take them out to dinner and break the news over dessert. It will be wonderful to see the looks on their faces when you "break the news".
2. T-shirts- This can be a fun way to get the news to your parents. If you already have a child you can purchase a t-shirt that says I'm the big brother/sister and put it on your child before visiting your parents. See how long it takes them to figure out just what the shirt is saying. If you are a first time parent, you can get t-shirts for you and your husband/ significant other that say I'm the Daddy/Mommy.
3. Gift or crafts- Buy or make a gift for your parents that have the words grandma/grandpa on them. They might scratch their heads for a minute but I am sure they will figure it out soon enough.
4. Christmas List- You can do this any time of the year. Your parents might think you are being a bit over the top at first. Especially if you are giving them a Christmas list in June. I think they will understand once they actually read it. Put things like crib, bottles, diapers and baby food on the list.
5. The Test- Tell them you passed your test with flying colors. When they ask what test, you tell them your pregnancy test. They are sure to ask you what qualifies as passing because this could be iffy. That is when you can tell them that you are getting a little bundle of joy.
Your parents will be ecstatic when they find out they are going to have a little grandbaby soon. It may take some time for your parents to get accustomed to being called "grandma" or "grandpa", but you will be amazed at how quickly they become attached to the idea. Have fun being creative in telling your parents that you are pregnant. It is one of the most blessed events in your life and should be celebrated in every possible way.
