Created on: July 11, 2008

According to the official tally of the World Health Organization [WHO]in 1998, the 21st century will welcome approximately 100,000 centenarians worldwide. In our modern world where the human population is growing larger than ever before, scientist are doing whatever possible means they could to help the human population obtain longer life span.
Reflections on turning 60 years old may seem to be easily said than obtained. In the developed countries people have a better chance of living longer than people living in the developing countries. The average life span of people living in the developing countries ranges from 50-70 years while people in the developed countries ranges from 70-100 years. The difference between this economic regions of the world are the chances to receive medical attention at the right time. The chance of getting medicnes that can cure diseases which usually attack the elderly between the ages 50 and over are all important in obtaining longer life span .Such medical attentions and chance are very few or could not be found in the developing countries as a result the average life span continues to decline.

With the absence of malaria,Yellow fever, polio in most developed countries the average life span of 70 years and turning 60 years can be easily obtained.According to the World Health Organization [WHO],malaria has killed more people in Sub-Saharan Africa than any other disease. This dealy disease which has depopulated the world's tropical inhabitants has killed more people especially those living in the informal sector and are marginilized by society and exist in abject poverty with little or very few sources of income. This is one of the major factors why the average life span of people living in this region decline below the 60 years margine. Malaria affects well over 100 countries worldwide and continues to infect 300 to 500 million people a year, causing nearly one million death.Under such unhealthy conditions the chance to reach 60 years old is a bitter battle.
Every human being no matter what type of life he may live in would like to live as long as he or she could. However the typical scenarion here is that everyone who is 60 years old would like to live more and more. That psychological phenomena with the discovery in medicine will continue as long as people are provided with the proper medicine and medical attentions.
Some psycohlogist belief that longer life is a human achievement only won by experiance, knowledge and reasons from a nature quite different to whether our life span is nasty, brutish and short. The ability to identify what kind of life one should follow to prevent oneself from diseases are all important in achieving longer life span. However to be 60 years or more older in the modern world requires knowing what kind of medical treatement one should have in regards to diseases that shorten lives. The rest is eat according to what is good for your health.Reflections on turning 60 years old can continue on to turn you into a centenarian which is the next step scienctist are taking towards longer life span.
