I think that the speech Barack Obama made about the lack of father figures in black american families was correct and that should be worked on in the African American community. The fact that he can admit that the African American community needs to work on its values (especially the young African Americans) is commendable.
The problem with Jesse Jackson is that he is from a generation where you had to fight to get recognized and fight against racism and prejudice. The fight still exists today, however, it's not as blatant as it once was. Jesses Jackson is a fighter and he responded to Obama the way a fighter would have in his own mind to a colleague of his own. My Mother is also from this generation and whenever a statement is made to or about our race she gets all up in arms and all crazy too. This generation is hyper-sensitive to any reference of race or sex. The fact is that things are different nowadays but this generation still has fresh in their minds the riots, segregation and the KKK because they lived it. We can't understand that now because we never did and hopefully never will.
I also heard that Jesse Jackson might have taken Barack's comments to heart because he had a mistress he knocked up. I don't believe this at all.
Jesse Jackson needs to realize that things are different nowadays. I have always admired the way the African American community came together after such oppression to become what they are (politically). What I don't like is that the 'old guard' of African American politicians had a 'holier than thou' attitude regarding their race and turning a blind eye to factual statistics, which is what Barack Obama used in his speech about the lack of fathers in the African Community. This needs to stop. Barack stated fact and Jesse Jackson would rather hold up a 'front' with his old 'holier than thou' attitude. Unfortunately, that doesn't help when looking at the factual statistical numbers.
Instead of arguing amongst ourselves we should be uniting, especially during an election year! This year is going to be super critical for democrats as a whole and we should not be quibbling over stupid remarks that were not thought out fully before being said.
