The Weather Channel is not exactly the greatest channel for entertainment. However, if you're a fan of national and even international weather, you're going to enjoy the greatness that is channel has for you. If you're not a fan of national or international weather, you're going to hate this channel as it bores you to tears.
The Weather Channel, for all intents and purposes, is a channel dedicated to delivering the weather news from around the United States and beyond. They don't add a whole lot of filler, and the advertisers are not knocking down their door to get into the advertising between updates. The forecasts range from city to state to national levels and sometimes they will chime in with international weather news.
A great thing about the channel is their overall excitement towards anything Weather related. That's right, the Weather channel enjoys great success due in large part to their "selling" of the weather enthusiasm. This is not some gimmick or local showcase of intolerable personalities, this is something that seems somewhat genuine. One of the greatest things that you can have as a news anchor, even if it is weather news, is an overall demeanor that draws in the audience. A lot of the times the Weather Channel has just that, just enough charisma to keep you watching.
On the other hand, the tedious pace of global news is not exactly the greatest thrill ride on television. It certainly is going to be a hard sell for the majority of people out there. It can be somewhat taxing to watch several hours of their programming due in large part to the need of local weather. Many will argue that the internet and even your cellphone can deliver quicker localized weather. This is definitely made true with modern advancements in cell phones, but you probably won't get that same overall global feel. Plus, the radar, you have to consider the radar and overall saturation of information presented in those clever graphics.
The weather channel is mundane at times. I know that I've gone through the trouble of trying to talk it up, but lets face it. The weather channel is not going to maintain your attention for very long. Unless you're Ned Flanders, in which case you might enjoy it. In fact, if you recall your Simpsons trivia, you might know that Mr. Flanders has nearly every channel blocked on his satellite television system. One might argue that Ned Flanders could and would most likely appreciate the weather channel. So if you're anywhere near the scope of that character, you are going to love it. Otherwise, your intake of the weather channel is not going to be frequent.
The weather channel is an interesting idea. It provides jobs to a lot of people, and to have such a channel is definitely something that may interest people from all walks of life. However, it really does have it's own very specific demographic of interest. I'm not in that demographic, but there are those out there that love the channel.
