Sandler's new movie: Good, bad or brilliant? Well quite simply, if you want a fresh, new and unique giggle this summer, you need not look any further than that of "You Don't Mess With The Zohan", a comedy film based on an Israeli soldier portrayed by the ever-comedic Adam Sandler who longs to live the American dream of becoming a hair stylist!
Adam Sandler is quite simply put; a comedic genius. Hilarity and comedy are his favorite things and we love him for it. We all know and love him from several of his famous comedy movies including the iconic 1999 Big Daddy. Therefore, when I tell you that "You Don't Mess With The Zohan" is another movie by Sandler full of laughs, full of comedy and full of ironic twists and plots, would you really be surprised?
The story follows a man by the name of the title, Zohan, who is an Israeli soldier. However, after getting tired of the war, the constant fighting and his post in the Israeli army, he decides to fake his own death and move away to the good old United States of America in order to pursue his true dream of becoming a hairstylist!
Naturally; Zohan has served so much time being in the Israeli army and has never visited America before. He is not familiar with the culture and he is certainly not familiar with the rules and what is labeled as normal and what is labeled as weird. In American terms and to the people who see him? He would be classed as weird. If you saw a former Israeli soldier cooking fish on the beach in the nude however, wouldn't you too?
Unfortunately, the fun and games of this once in a lifetime vacation are cut short after an Israeli defense helicopter recognizes him as Zohan and brings him back to his post. After much haggling and bribery, Zohan agrees to assist them in carrying out one final mission before he is able to go free and pursue his true dream. Will Zohan agree to carry out this mission and above all else, will Zohan, now accustomed to America, be able to carry out this mission and achieve the opportunity to pursue his true dream of becoming a hairstylist in New York? I will let you find out for yourselves.
In general, I would say this movie in its entirety was a successful attempt to make comedy out of a serious situation. War is never something to laugh at, it is a serious business of a serious nature, however, when Adam Sandler is in that war? Then it is just down right hilarious. This movie did not fail to give me the giggles and some scenes made me laugh for a long time. However, in general, the movie begins to lose the momentum around a half away through when it becomes to engrossed in the overall war aspect and steers away from the comedy that we expected from Sandler.
It will certainly appeal to anyone seeking a good laugh this summer. Adam Sandler never fails to deliver in comedy situations. Strange accents, Americanisms and the desire to become a hairstylist. That is the plot in a whole, and Sandler pulls it off with the expertise we have all became so familiar with in the past. An iconic performance and in general a decent overall movie no major complaints from me!
