Poetry: Broken & lost

by Kara Hart

Created on: July 10, 2008

She grabs her lunch after putting away her wallet.

So many faces she doesn't know.

A few, she recognizes, but as she approaches,

they glare at her, and she walks away as their eyes follow her,

then return to eachother.

She finds an empty table and sits, looking around.

She sits at a table by herself, in the middle of the room.

Everyone around her is surrounded by their friends.

A large room, disected into many tables,

with groups of 2s, 3s, or more, all conversing.

She is alone.

As she dines, her eyes search the crowds

for another the same as her; no hope.

Often times, as she glances, she catches eyes staring back.

She throws her trash away

and moves to an empty table by the fountain.

She ponders as her mind drowns in the water.

How can there be so much commotion about,

yet her world still seems so quiet?

"I have no friends" she thinks.

"Is it because I am not a genius?"

She turns and sees her reflection a window across the room.

"Is it because I am not skinny? Am not beautiful?"

"I'm different..."

"But why am I different?"
