The 2009 Ford F150 starts the 12th generation of F150, with its completely redesigned interior, exterior, and engine. This much awaited truck has really topped expectations, and is definitely "the" truck for 2009.
The truck has many new features that have other truck companies scrambling to catch up. Some of these features include the integrated backup camera mounted inside the Ford symbol on the tailgate of the truck. The tailgate itself has been redesigned, giving it a modern flair.. literally. It now has a type of spoiler on top. As from last year's Super Duty Tucks (F250-F350), the tailgate also features a tailgate step and grab bar. The rear of the truck also offers a Cargo Organizer, a Stowable Bed Extender, a Box Sidestep, and a bed liner that exceeds military grade protective coating.
The front of the truck features a redesigned grill that really makes this truck look rugged. The headlights have also been reshaped to fit the grill, and add to the look.
Gas is already enough trouble now as it is, so Ford has decided to at least make refueling a little easier. Ford is introducing the EasyFuel Capless Fuel-Filler System, which takes away that annoyance of unscrewing that messy gas cap. With spring loaded tabs, refueling is not only easier to do, it is also helps reduce evaporative emissions, and therefore helps the environment.
As for engines, the V6 is now obsolete. All F150's will come with a V8. The 4.2 liter V6 will be replaced with a 4.6 liter V8, with two different versions, one having 2-valve cylinders, and the other having 3-valve cylinders. Also available is the 5.4 liter V8, fit with 3 valves per cylinder. Another option is that you can get the truck in 7 different trim levels. These are XL, STX, FX4, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum. The Platinum Edition replaces the Lincoln version Mark LT.
As in years past, Ford is offering three cab sizes. These are the regular cab, the Super Cab, and the Crew Cab, which has a 6 inch longer wheel base than the 2008 model. This makes for a much roomier cab for both driver and passengers. There is also an optional SIRIUS Travel Link, and an optional on-board computer dubbed "Ford Work Solutions", that provides workers with great programs to help them with their business. This also comes with an optional keyboard.
Fuel Economy has also increased a bit this year, at a range of about 1-2 miles per gallon difference. It will get approximately 14 mpg city, and 20 mpg highway, give or take a mile or two depending on your area.
As for cost of the Trucks, depending on what features you choose for the truck, MSRP will be anywhere from $17,000-$34,000. With the many features available this year, you will certainly want to take your time deciding.
