forgiveness for my many faults
jokes erupt in laughter and
make me forget the tears
to distract me from some crisis
I saw brewing but was nothing more
than chaos strumming for attention
in a world anxious for peace
and a quiet collective mind
blind to my scars
accepting of the things I will never be
some special recipe is rising like a symphony
planned for when I arrived home tired
and empty
you picked up all the ingredients and
found the placemats at the back of the pantry
and you won't be upset if I drink an extra glass of chard
you understand it was a long day and
smoothing my hair and kissing my headache
wishing you could take away the pain
you love me

the table too small
his left hand on his belly
the right hand
