Disney and Pixar films have again created movie magic with their newest animated movie Wall-E. The quality of this movie is in league with other Disney/Pixar films like The Incredibles, Cars, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc., and even Toy Story. It seems that the Disney and Pixar team up has done it once again.
While the movie sports a "G" rating, it is great entertainment for the entire family. The main character, Wall-E, is one of the last remaining functioning robots on Earth. Mankind has left Earth behind because of its uninhabitable state. Wall-E and other robots like him are left behind to clean up the mess. This particular robot, however, has some quirks.
It is these quirks that make the movie worth the expensive theater ticket. While watching the movie there were plenty of laughs to be had. Wall-E's unique personality makes the movie very entertaining. He and his pet cockroach live in an abandoned truck with all of the interesting knick-knacks that Wall-E has collected during his trash compacting duties. This duo and their relationship certainly provide some comic relief.
Soon after the movie begins, Wall-E encounters another robot very unlike himself. Eve is a search robot whose mission is to determine if Earth is yet fit for the human's return. Wall-E, who is largely alone on Earth, is intrigued by this newcomer. Wall-E tries to gain the attention of Eve, but Eve is to intent upon her mission to give much notice to the much less sophisticated and important robot. However Wall-E is also very intent upon a new mission to gain the affection of Eve.
In the process of Wall-E's escapades to attract Eve, he inadvertently helps Eve achieve her mission and activates her return sequence. A transport is soon available to take Eve back to the "mothership" the Axiom. As Eve is taken away, Wall-E is determined to follow. He chases Eve across the galaxy in the attempt to stay by her side.
Aboard the Axiom, Wall-E runs across more misfit robots like himself. This band of misfits team up to help Eve achieve her mission. In the process they run across the resistance in the form of some robots who like the power they have gained over the humans aboard the ship. The humans aboard the ship have grown dependent upon the robots for their survival. They have all grown obese and incredibly lazy. I thought that this particular social undertone was hilarious. The creators of this film are definitely trying to send a message with this aspect of the movie. The messages being "watch your weight," and "beware artificial intelligence."
However, not all artificial intelligence is dangerous in this film. While some of the robots aboard the Axiom have grown fond of their position of power in the presence of human ignorance, Wall-E and his band of misfit robots are determined to help the humans. With all of this effort Wall-E saves the day and achieves his own mission. Eve has fallen for our quirky hero.
Wall-E's awkwardness is the definite highlight of the movie. This aspect of the film led to many laughs throughout the course of the movie. The storyline was definitely well thought out and it moved along very well. There were no parts of the movie that seemed to drag on. While some may scoff at the social undertones I thought that they were funny and added some character to the movie itself. This all fit in nicely with the overall story and the story proved to be a good one.
If you are in need of a good hour and a half of entertainment I would suggest heading to your local theater and catching Disney/Pixar's Wall-E.
