How to organize your household

disposal, and bathrooms. For the refrigerator, a good idea is to use soap and water and clean it out a couple times a year, and keep an open box of baking soda inside the refrigerator to suck up odors. For the garbage disposal, you can take a combinator of vinegar, and baking soda, filling up a cup, and than pouring it down the garbage disposal. Let the chemical work. Then fill it up with water. An open box of baking soda in different strategic locations around the home helps to control odors. I believe homes today are more prone to having odor issues since homes are more insulated, closed up, and there is less ventilation of natural air coming in. Windows are often not the kind you can open. We live in sealed containers. Running the air conditioner, although it can be costly, protects the home from mold and odor build up.

In thinking where to arrange things, we need to think about what we want near the windows, doors, closets, book shelves, sitting areas. Do we allow for a sitting area in each room? How can we have a more functional seating area? Do we have to move chairs all the time to find the best seating location? This also goes along with having enough of what we need. Extra chairs are important for guests or to make sure there is adequate seating throughout the home. What about trashcans. Each room should have a trash can so we are not having to borrow a can from another part of the home. Always having enough is key.

We also want to make sure our furniture, and accessories go together. I already discussed color schemes, but there is more than just colors to consider. The furniture types need to relate to each other, be similar or harmonious to each other. Think sets, patters, styles, types, textures. All of this comes after thinking about colors. The rug needs to go with the rest of the room. The couch needs to fit in with the armchair, coffee table, love seat, or whatever. A visitor's eyes will easily notice a good arrangement of related furniture and accessories, or will notice inharmony. We want our visitors to be comfortable, and to come back.

Maintaining household order is a work in progress since the home is in constant use. It is not a museum where everything stays fixed in unique spaces. People live in a home, move in a home, use the objects in the home, sit on the furniture in the home, dirty up the home, move things around in the home. Something new always happens in the home. This calls for constantly renewing our sense of order in the home.
