Allured
My fists are clenched tight,
so tight that my knuckles are a ghostly white.
I try desperately to hold onto all things
that are dear in this life.
I am in bondage to
all that I believe is safe and deservingly mine.
In my blindness and stubbornness
I fail to see that the One who started it all
The One who desires so much more for me.
If I would just release my grip and allow
the One who gave breath to me to tenderly
take care of my dreams and fears
I would be wooed.
Yet, I stuff Him into a defined mold
refusing to believe of his vastness and power.
But he comes to allure me out of the darkness
and away from the things that hold me captive.
He speaks kindly to me and breathes life to my failing heart.
My soul finds rest and healing
as I realize that his ways are so much greater than mine.
