Ways to turn your bathroom into the lap of luxury

Everyone has a bathroom. Some are lucky enough to have the funds to build the most luxurious, high tech, everything top of the range bathrooms - wouldn't we all love one of those ? and there are those of us who are not quite in the same position, we can't afford high tech and top of the range. However, there are ways that we can indulge ourselves in the luxury of a peaceful environment for our 'time out - me time '

We probably all whizz through the housework at top speed on a day to day basis during our busy lives, promising ourselves that we will find time next week to get into the nooks and crannies, get down the cobwebs and clean that lamp shade. .... sound a bit familiar? I was one such culprit of this until I made a promise to myself that I was going to make the time to tackle every single room one by one.

I have always loved to take a bath, showering everyday is great, but now and then being up to my neck in bubbles and letting the world float by me is such a wonderful way to relax. Here are a few tips for you to help create your room of sheer indulgence.

1. Take a good look around your bathroom. How much clutter can you actually get rid of ? Start with the bathroom cupboard if you have one - how many items are in there that you never actually use ? throw them out. Is there an old bottle of shampoo that you started and then forgot about ? tip this into the bath filled withwarm water, add some bicarbonate of soda and let it soak why you carry on de-cluttering - not only will your bath wash nice and clean, it will shine and smell good. If you had more space in here, you can store the things that you use everyday instead of leaving them lying around on the basin or window ledge. Having de-cluttered this space, give it a good clean inside and out.

2. Use a paintbrush or handbroom to brush over the ceiling, this will get rid of those unsightly cobwebs and dust. Do the same to the floor surface along the bottom edges of the walls and furniture i.e. bath, base of basin and toilet.

3. Fill a bucket with hot water and perfumed bleach - remember to wear rubber gloves - with a substantial size cloth, wash down bathroom tiles, window ledge, shelves, paintwork - don't forget the door ! Using freshwater and more bleach, wash out the hand basin, wipe out the bath (which has been pre-soaked) and finally the toilet. Clean the window, the ceiling light and shade and vaccum the floor.

4. You now have a clean and de-cluttered bathroom to work on ... and you are probably feeling pretty satisfied with yourself by now as the room will look so much better already. Place freshly laundered towels on the towel rail, fold one small towel into four and pull back one corner, place this on the edge of the bath. If you are expecting guests, it's quite nice to place a few rose petals on the top of the towel. Scented tea light candles are pretty inexpensive these days, place a few around the room for that romantic look. Maybe invest in a nice whicker basket to place on the floor - fill this with a couple of bottles of bath bubbles, pretty soaps, loofah, a bunch of dried lavendar and body lotion.

5. If you do not have a wall cupboard or similar, invest in a second whicker basket to hide away the things you use everyday - i.e. razor, blades, toothpaste and brush, face creams, comb and hairbrush.

6. A candle sconce on the wall and a pretty framed picture or photograph will add to the bathrooms' new personality.

You now have your place of luxury and indulgence - Take time out for yourself, relax and Enjoy !
