Video game reviews: World of Warcraft

health and portrait is but it will be represented in different colours or as a skull. A skull level means the mob is ten levels or more above your character. A grey number means you will not get any experience from the mob. If the mob's level is coloured green, then it signals that within one or two more character levels, they will be worth no experience. Also, when a mob has a grey challenge level, the radius in which they'll attack the player is much lessened.

Once you reach the level cap, equipment is very important and you will need the best items to venture into the game's toughest instances. To enter them, players will form raids. The max cap on players allowed within them is forty (twenty-four with expansion). The groups will demand the best gear for you to even be allowed to join. These dungeons are also where most of the game's lore takes place.

At the bottom of the screen, the interface will have a quickbar with slots for you to place your skills in, to allow you to more easily use them. They are used by pressing the relevant button or by clicking on them.

PvP is decent in the game but it isn't the focal point, as PvE is. If players PvP however, they will find they can earn good items on par with PvE items by joining battle grounds (PvP instances) and arena teams. The items are more geared towards fighting other players though. If playing on a PvP server where you're flagged for combat nearly all of the time no matter where you are, it is inevitable you will be killed by higher levels even if killing you won't reward them. The only inconvenience caused by dying to players is that you will have to run back to your corpse. Some also tend to corpse camp you, which means they will wait around the area you can spawn in to kill you again. Due to the popularity of the game, this is more prevalent than in other games.

At level forty, you will gain access to a mount, which costs quite a lot of money so saving is necessary.

So the game is easy to play and centres around a player forming relationships with others. At the centre of the game is the constant search for better equipment and more money.

Graphics:

The graphics are cartoon like in nature and a good computer isn't required to run the game, like with most Blizzard games. The equipment graphics on your character can be over the top, but it is in keeping with the game's art style. Also, female characters can be rather scantily clad, regardless of whether they are orcs or humans. This includes any of the other races.

The graphics while not bad will either be a love or hate affair, depending on a person's tastes.

Overall:

WoW is a good game, easy to use and does a lot of things right. But where the controversy comes in is the fact that the game can be addictive. If people don't think they can moderate how much time they spend within the game and it could be harmful to them, it is recommended to not focus on end-game instances, not play as much or maybe search for a more casual friendly game. Also, with the focus on item gathering and large groups at the level cap, people will tend to argue. It is never pretty or fun.

However, despite this, the game is still casual friendly up until the level cap. Players can certainly log in for fifteen to thirty minutes and get something done.

What must also be stated is that WoW's players tend to be the worst of the bunch in comparison to the players of other games. It isn't actually true as it's the same as other games of it's nature but because it is the biggest game out there with the most players playing it, it is just a lot more noticeable. In contrast, there are also a lot of good and nice people who play the game.
