Video game reviews: World of Warcraft

The World of Warcraft (WoW) is a good game, but controversial. Why you ask? Well, I'll explain further down.

To start with, the game has a monthly fee so you will need to create an account. The fee is around the same price as other games within the genre. You get thirty days free. The three or six month payment option will be better value than the one month plan if you feel you will play for a good deal of time.

Now that's out of the way, getting into the game world:

First, you will need to enter your password and username. Once that is done, you will find you need to select a server. There are several choices: RP, PvE, PvP, and RP-PvP.

PvE is where players cannot attack you unless you flag yourself for combat. PvP is where you can be attacked by anyone once you're in contested territory. That is anywhere outside the starter areas. RP is a server for the roleplayers to hang out on and has no PvP again unless you flag yourself for it.

Once you've chosen your server, you will be taken to the character selection screen. The choices with regards to character appearance aren't as plentiful as other games with sliders to adjust facial features etc. but they get the job done. There are a total of eight races to choose from (ten with expansion) and several different classes. Each class is different from the other. So each player should be able to find a class they like.

That is all there is to it really before you get into the game. It's easy.

Once in the game world for the first time:

When you've created your character and enter the world for the first time, you will be in the beginners area, otherwise known as the newbie area. You will be there from level one to four/five. It is a part of a larger zone designed for levels one to ten. Each race you choose will be given a different starting place with a few exceptions. Dwarves and gnomes share the same starting area. The same for the trolls and orcs.

The game eases you into the controls and mechanics easily. If there's one thing the game does very well, it is suitable for veterans of online role-playing games and new people. The quests and enemies (mobs) in the starter area aren't hard either and there should be no problem in dispatching them. A new character won't have a lot of skills also. Two to five at the most, so there isn't much to learn at first and the game isn't complex.

When you've killed a few enemies and completed the first quest, you should level up. Here, you'll get a few statistic increases and at every even
