How to be a top salesperson

First, please understand that selling is a profession and as with any profession, it requires time, practice and study. A successful brain surgeon does not become one by simply reading a book on brain surgery. So, if you expect to read some magic words here that will suddenly transform you into a sales guru and make you rich, you are sadly mistaken. However, if you desire to be a true professional, where minimum wage is six figures, AND you are willing to invest the time and effort necessary, then please read on.

As a sales professional for over 25 years, I consistently lead my peers in sales success and as a sales manager and trainer, I have hired and training hundreds of sales people, leading most of them to highly successful careers. Over my career I have developed a simple, basic formula that, if followed will ensure success. Just follow these BASIC principles:

B Believe
A Ask
S S.O.S
I I.T.
C Care

I'll try to be brief, though these are important concepts, so please bare with me.

B Believe: Believe In What You Sell
Very early in my career, someone gave me what has proven to be the best advice I ever received. A retiring old sales pro, once told me:

Never sell any product or service unless you can sit down with your elderly grandmother, your mother, father, wife or some cherished loved one, and give that person a full presentation and feel comfortably to push and persist that he or she buy the product; AND feel good about the commission you made off the sale.

He told me that if you do not feel you can do that, then you do not truly believe in what you are selling. And he was right.

First and foremost, you have to believe in what you sellwholeheartedly. If you do not, then actually you are not a "sales professional." You are a con artist because you are lying to people. Enthusiasm means, "God within," and the only way to have true enthusiasm is to have the conviction in your heart that what you are selling honestly is the best thing for your customer.

The reason there is so much burn out, stress and turnover in sales is that too many sales people choose a company and product because of the money they will make regardless of the product. This is a mistake. Whether you are new to the world of selling or been in the business for many years, if you do not truly believe in your product QUIT NOW!

A Ask: Ask For the Order
I know this may seem like common sense. However, many sales people fail because they
