Why is it that the rights of the offender are more important than the violation of the rights of the victim? It is more than unfortunate that criminal defense attorneys can make a ton of money, but there is no money for victim's advocates. Child molesters attack the most innocent among us in society and as a society, we are unable to stem this attack. It is long since due for the American people to stand up and say "No more attacks on our chldren!".
The damage that is done to a victims of sexual abuse is lifelong and devastating. While it impossible to pinpoint the exact damage done, it is clear that emotional development is impaired. The psychological damage is so destructive, many victims wind up suffering from psychoses for the rest of their lives. Promiscuity is rampant, and often fits of rage follow the victim and threaten every personal relationship that person ever has. All for what? So another person can make a conscious decision to satisfy a depraved sense of the most primitve urge? It is inexcusable.
The animals that target children can only be considered just that. Too many times do I open the paper and read that another child was molested and killed by a convicted sex offender. Too many times do we hear of another judge giving a light sentence to convicted sex offenders, and too often do we learn of the release of a child predator into our school district. They have no place in society. My wife has a suggestion. We live on Long Island and off the eastern tip of our island lies Plum Island. For decades they have been studying animal diseases there, but recently there has been a call for the closing of the facility. She thinks we should put them all there for the rest of their lives, and they can molest each other to their heart's content. Unfortunately I don't believe that would pass legislative muster.
The governor of Louisiana has a handle for this type of thing. Just a few weeks ago, the Supreme Court overturned a law in Louisiana that would put child rapists to death. The very next day, he signed into law another bill providing for the chemical castration of those same child rapists. While his new law may not pass the test of the courts, at least one of our public officials is trying to do the right thing. He deserves our support.
It comes down to a very basic point. Child molesters will always be child molesters. They have the urge to molest children, and that will never go away. We are a society of laws, and those laws are designed to protect the people. If they fail to do so, they need to be changed. They have failed our most precious citizens. The future of our world lies in the hands of the children. We must not allow their innocence to be stolen away. Child molesters have no place with us. If I was ever in a position where one my children was threatened, I would kill the attacker. Wouldn't you?
