Robert Mugabe and the Zimbabwe crisis

by Denepher Smith

Created on: July 08, 2008

A sinister phenomenon is occurring as a result of the actions of Mr Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe. Increasingly as I pick up newspapers I see that the closet white supremacists are regaining confidence ( comments following Simon Heffer, 28.6.08, www.telegraph.co.uk ), and beginning to use this most pitiful situation to peddle their equally heinous brand of logic. ie:

Rhodesia was a wealthy peaceful place under Ian Smith and white rule ergo only whites can rule peacefully and successfully.

All black rule is inferior and innately corrupt.

Black people cannot rule themselves and are better off being treated as second class citizens under white rule.

Less such warped logic take hold of the consciousness of those also reading or drawing such inferences from recent events, let me point out a few glaringly obvious facts:

Evil actions and behavior are not genetically linked to the chromosomal construct for pigmentation.(David Beillo, American Scientist, Dec, 2005) www.scientificamerican.com. The attempt to link racial profiling to human behavior has been the past time of many right wing eugenicists but to date there is no basis in fact for such wishful thinking on their part.

Zimbabwe's neighbour, "Botswana has maintained one of the world's highest economic growth rates since independence in 1966, though growth slowed to 4.7% annually in 2006-07". https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-f actbook/geos/bc.html . Botswana is not alone in being a stable African nation. Senegal too is enjoying a period of good governance and steady economic growth.(www.iss.co.za/af/profiles)

A league table of tyrants, dictators and despots throughout history would place contributors from the European continent clearly in the lead. Who has not heard of Ivan, The Terrible? while Hitler, Stalin, Milosevic are just a few modern examples. ( The Dictators, by Richard Overy - History - Penguin Books (2005) Modern day Europe has become a turbulent place. New nations have been created and dissolved over the last 100 years. ( Lethal Politics: Soviet Genocide and mass murder since 1917 by. R . J Rummel. New Brunswick, N.J.: Transaction Publishers, 1990). Despite two bloody world war, genocide has continued to be practiced in Europe, with the deaths of tens of thousands, as recently as the 1990's. (Genocide in Bosnia-Herzegovina,Tuesday, April 4, 1995, A Hearing before the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, Washington, DC.) www.fas.org/irp/congress/1995_hr/genocideinbosnia.ht ml.
