How old is too old to wear a mini skirt?

Anyone over 70 is definitely too old to wear mini skirt, and they probably wouldn't even consider it, anyway. There are two more important considerations than age, in my opinion.

1. Are your legs up to the challenge?

If you have slim, shapely and lightly tanned legs, then you can probably carry off a mini skirt well into your 50's. However, if your legs have so many varicose veins you look like a road map without the pretty colours, then a mini skirt is not for you. Could you win first prize for most cellulite in a confined space, or are your legs so chubby that when you stop walking, they keep right on moving for about 20 seconds? Then you should not consider a mini skirt. Dressing well is not just about having a supermodel figure - after all, few of us are blessed with that - it's about accentuating the positive and minimising the negative so your good bits are enhanced and the eyes are drawn away from the less than perfect bits.

You don't need legs that go on for ever to carry off a mini skirt, but your legs must look good and be in proportion with the rest of your body. The last thing you want to do when you step out in your mini skirt is frighten the horses, so be honest with yourself. Are your legs good enough to be displayed in a mini skirt for all to see? If the answer is 'Yes,' go for it, whether you're 15, 25, 35 or 45. If you have to think about the answer, then it's probably 'No,' so don't even consider a mini skirt, even if you're not out of college yet.

2. How mini is mini exactly?

If we're talking elongated belt here, then you're probably too old to wear a mini skirt at 21. However, a mini skirt that finishes few inches above the knee  can be very flattering, as long as your you have the legs for it. If you don't, forget about mini skirts and dress to accentuate your positive features and play down the less than perfect body parts.

If you have a small waist, wear trousers or a longer skirt and choose a nice belt to draw attention to your waist. Nice cleavage? Then emphasise your top half rather than your bottom half. You know how you look, but if you're uncertain about your best feature, or even if you think you don't have one, ask a friend whom you trust to be honest without putting you down. Everybody has a good point they can work on; once you identify yours, go ahead and dress up to it. Be beautiful!
