In her eyes
I see myself as a boy
in flight
on a path of twists and turns
a stranger at every crossroads
heads turned in utter disdain.
In her eyes I see truth
and deception
both deign to mock imposing stares
from errant passers
or would be trialists
intent on knowing
In her eyes
I have questioned
that twinking armour
and forged a link
of time and truth
where hurt and pleasure
know no mercy
where secrets coil in abject fear.
In her eyes
I see passion
bereft of power
toiling there
bubbling in a mothers cauldron
oozing, lost,
in every tear.
In her eyes
I see her past
in many guises
standing there
where pathways throng
with puzzled choices
and roads converge
to God Knows where
in her eyes
there burns a fierceness
defiant proud aloof
in fear
yet open
welcome
hoping
someday
for a champions piercing stare.

She waits silently.
